چکیده

Among the congenital otocephalic syndromes, the term "first and second branchial arch syndrome" designates, in the United States, a characteristic congenital malformation which is usually unilateral but occasionally bilateral. In the German literature, the deformity has been termed "dysostosis otomandibularis". Caronni (1971) has coined the term "auriculobranchiogenic dysplasia". Stark and Saunders (1962) referred to a similar clinical association of physical findings as the first branchial arch syndrome or the oral-mandibular-auricular syndrome.

Photographic protocol for image acquisition in craniofacial microsomia

Craniofacial microsomia (CFM) is a congenital condition associated with orbital, mandibular, ear, nerve, and soft tissue anomalies. We present a standardized, two-dimensional, digital photographic protocol designed to capture the common craniofacial features associated with CFM.

Orthognathic Surgery in Craniofacial Microsomia: Treatment Algorithm

Craniofacial microsomia is a broad term that covers a variety of craniofacial malformation conditions that are caused by alterations in the derivatives of the first and second pharyngeal arches. In general terms, diverse therapeutic alternatives are proposed according to the growth stage and the severity of the alteration. When craniofacial growth has concluded, conventional orthognathic surger...

Mandibular distraction in hemifacial microsomia is not a permanent treatment: a long-term evaluation.

BACKGROUND Hemifacial microsomia presents with abnormalities including short ramus, absence of condyle, abnormal canting, deviated chin, and facial asymmetry. Many studies about distraction osteogenesis have been published over the last 20 years, but without long-term follow-up. The aim of this study was to evaluate patients with unilateral craniofacial microsomia who were treated with mandible...

Reliable classification of facial phenotypic variation in craniofacial microsomia: a comparison of physical exam and photographs.

BACKGROUND Craniofacial microsomia is a common congenital condition for which children receive longitudinal, multidisciplinary team care. However, little is known about the etiology of craniofacial microsomia and few outcome studies have been published. In order to facilitate large, multicenter studies in craniofacial microsomia, we assessed the reliability of phenotypic classification based on...

Changes in soft tissue facial profile of craniofacial microsomia patients: geometric morphometrics.

To analyze changes in the soft tissue profile associated with an inverted L osteotomy, preoperative, early postoperative, and late postoperative lateral cephalographs of 13 children with craniofacial microsomia (mean age 9 +/- 2 years) were scanned, and 11 soft tissue landmarks were digitized (digitization errors insignificant; P > 0.05). Cephalometry, Euclidean distance matrix analysis (EDMA),...
